Resurrecting and restoring one of the greatest Turn of
the Century estates along the Gold Coast of Cohasset definitely had its
challenges. Restoration began at the ground level, replacing the crumbling
foundations and rotted framing and went right up through the house to
the top of the new chimneys. Great care was taken in saving the integrity
of the existing structures and replicating some of the exceptional details
that give the homes the charm and appeal that so many homeowners look
for in a house these days. No piece of molding or trim was left unturned
and nothing was left to chance. Great pains were taken to replicate the
unique trim details on the exterior of the main house. Reproducing the “Sunrise” rake
boards, all the different decorative gable ends, and the custom cut wavy
sidewall shingles meant to mimic the ocean waves are a true testament
to the craftsmanship of days gone by.
Extensive site work and logistics went into this project. Planning
and scheduling were a top priority due to the complexity of the project
and the timeframe spent on site. All new underground utilities were interwoven
with the new drainage and all the ledge that makes Cohasset so beautiful.
All new landscaping was required for the grounds. New
native stonewalls and terraces were built with stone excavated
during the construction site work process. Mature privacy hedge was shipped
in from Long Island, NY to define the grounds and add an element of privacy.
A breathtaking negative edge pool spilling into the Atlantic Ocean tops
off the list of challenges on this one of a kind Estate. |
